"Evening Reflections" wins Honorable Mention at WFWS Show. - Juror, Katherine Chang Liu, selected "Evening Reflections" by Roni Sumer to receive an Honorable Mention at the prestigious Western Federation of Watercolor Societies (WFWS) 33rd Annual Show.  The WFWS encourages and recognizes artistic excellence through competitions and encourages the visibility of watercolor as an artistic medium through annual exhibitions.  The WFWS includes over 5000 artists in 10 regional societies in the western US.  This years show will be held at the Tubac Center of the Arts in Tuscon, AZ from February 23 thru April 6, 2008.  Click here for further details on the show.

"Rainy Window View" receives Third Place Ribbon at NCSFA. - Jurors awarded "Rainy Window View" by Roni Sumer Third Place in the NCSFA Exhibit at the Poway Center for the Performing Arts held in January 2006.  The show which was open to member artists is held yearly at the center.  "Rainy Window View" has been previously recognized by SDWS with a third place ribbon.

"Temple Offerings" receives Merit Award at 2005 California State Fair Jurors for the California State Fair selected "Temple Offerings" by Roni Sumer to recieve a Merit Award in the two dimensional competition.   The fair is recognized as the Golden State's oldest and most prestigious fine art competition.  The Fair runs August 12th thru September 5th.  Click here for more information on the exhibit.
Roni shares Top Honor - Roni was one of three artists selected to share the top Award at the San Diego Museum of Art’s Artists Guild Exhibition.  The award was made based on overall quality of work rather than a single piece.   The exhibit will include two of Roni's pieces,  Tempest & CosmopolitanThe exhibit will take place at the Boehm Gallery, Palomar College located at 1140 West Mission Blvd. San Marcos, CA 92069 Phone: (760) 744-1150 x2304.  "Fair's Remembrance" receives Top Award at 2005 San Diego County Fair San Diego County Fair Manager, Chana Mannen, selected "Fair's Remembrance in Shadows" by Roni Sumer to recieve the 2005 Manager's Choice Award, the top overall award in the show.  Fair's Remembrance depicts fairgoers strolling the midway of the Del Mar fairgrounds on a sunny day. The award is accompanied by a $250 prize. 


"Sunburst" receives First Place Ribbon in Master Division and Best of Show - Stan Sowinski, juror for the North County Society of Fine Arts selected Sunburst by Roni Sumer to receive a 1st place ribbon in the Society's tri-annual Advancement by Ribbon competition.  Competing in the Masters Division, Roni also tied for "Best of Show" which is awarded by a vote of members.  The original painting of "Sunburst"  as well as Giclèe prints are available for sale. "Rainy Window View" receives Third Place Ribbon at SDWS. - Juror Annette Paquette awarded Rainy Window View by Roni Sumer Third Place in the San Diego Watercolor Society's November Cash Awards show. 1st, 2nd, 3rd place ribbons were awarded as well as Juror's Choice and Honorable Mentions. The SDWS cash shows are open to members only and traditionally draw the most entries. "Rainy Window View" was awarded a First Place at the NCSFA Advancement by Ribbon the previous month.

Roni advances to Master level - North County Society of Fine Arts juror Annette Lotuso Paquet awarded Rainy Window View First Place in the society's tri-annual Advancement by Ribbon juried program. 1st, 2nd, 3rd place ribbons were awarded as well as two Honorable Mentions. The NCSFA Advancement by Ribbon program recognizes member artists for their continued growth and achievement in their art. With the awarding of this ribbon, Roni has been recognized by the society as a Master, the highest level of advancement.

"Hummingbird Rose" receives First Place Ribbon - Juror Joe Garcia selected Hummingbird Rose by Roni Sumer as Best of Show and awarded it the First Place Blue Ribbon at the 2nd Annual Southwestern Artists Association Exhibition. The painting depicts a mother hummingbird sitting on her nest below a spectacular orange/red rose in full bloom. "This painting really depicts life as we understand it " says Roni "The spent rose on the left foreshadows the inevitable fate that awaits us all. Yet as human beings we don't dwell on that aspect of life too much. Rather we focus, as this painting does, on the nest with unseen eggs that bring the promise of life and the young parent who will nurture it. Then we see the rose in full bloom that shows the promise of that life fulfilled. For me that's what life is about!" The exhibition is set to run thru June 15t at the SAA Gallery. "Yellow Rose" receives First Place Ribbon - Members of the North County Society of Fine Arts selected Yellow Rose by Roni Sumer to receive a 1st place ribbon in their annual Member's Exhibition. 1st, 2nd, 3rd place ribbons were awarded as well as two Honorable Mentions. The Member's Exhibition is held annually to recognize members and to present scholarships to deserving student artists. Yellow Rose depicts a single yellow rose with an intense unseen light source causing shadow and reflection. "The effect of light and shadow is my passion. In this painting the shadow created by an unseen light creates a three dimensional effect and wax like reflective surface on the leaves. It also makes the rose petals pop with a vibrant yet elegant yellow glow. I am honored to be recognized with this award by my fellow artists" says Roni. "Yellow Rose" is available in Giclèe print. "She Watches" receives Second Place Ribbon - Jurors for the North County Society of Fine Arts selected She Watches by Roni Sumer to receive a 2nd place ribbon in their tri-annual Advancement by Ribbon juried program. 1st, 2nd, 3rd place ribbons were awarded as well as two Honorable Mentions. The Advancement by Ribbon program recognizes member artists for their continued growth and achievement in their art. Roni is now one ribbon away from the Master's level.

"Winter Beach" receives Honorable Mention at San Diego County FairM - Jurors for the San Diego County Fair (formerly known as the Del Mar Fair), the 8th largest fair in the United States, recognized Roni Sumer's painting, Winter Beach with an Honorable Mention in the Professional Watercolor-Representational Category. The Fair received over 1300 entries in twenty categories this year. Less than half were juried in to the show. "Winter Beach" depicts a Naples, FL beach on a cloudy afternoon. "It was the time of year when the winter residents had left and the summer tourist season had not yet started. The entire mood and rhythm of the area was calm and relaxed. Even the weather wasn't in a hurry to develop. The winds were light and the clouds just sort of hung in the sky. I convey this mood and feeling through the light and shadow of my painting." says Roni.

"Lighthouse at Point Loma, CA" receives 3rd place ribbon at NCSFA Member's Exhibition - Members of the North County Society of Fine Arts selected Lighthouse at Point Loma, CA by Roni Sumer to receive a 3rd place ribbon in their annual Member's Exhibition. 1st, 2nd, 3rd place ribbons were awarded as well as two Honorable Mentions. The Member's Exhibition is held annually to recognize members and to present scholarships to deserving student artists.
